August 2017 - Te Uma o Te Kona was specifically chosen by a group of Taitamariki to name our shared Youth Space that was once located on Broadway, Kaikohe. Te Kona, mother of prominent Ngāpuhi leader, Hone Heke, is acknowledged for her maternal nature to provide safety, counsel and comfort.  To maintain the connection of this past initiative our current whare located at 74 Guy Road, Kaikohe, upholds the name and mana of this tupuna whaea, Te Kona.
