TE KOTAHITANGA E MAHI KAHA TRUST (TKEMKT)
Just as the kohekohe sustained our tūpuna, we will sustain our future generations.
Te Kotahitanga E Mahi Kaha Trust (TKEMKT), is a prominent charitable organisation that has been serving our vibrant community of Kaikohe since 1986. Established by Trust Deed in 1983, Te Kotahitanga E Mahi Kaha Trust is a solution focussed organisation that supports whānau within Ngāpuhi to achieve Tino Rangatiratanga. We provide sustainable options by optimising what we have and draw on kōrero tuku iho to inform our ways of working. Through our provisions we utilise our TAIAO & TĀNGATA resources to provide WorkForce Development; Leadership qualifications and Training; Education support; Employment support; Business & Enterprise development; Pastoral care and Pathway support. With more than 30+ years of history serving the community in and around Kaikohe, the Trust has evolved as a reputable organisation that strives to uphold and implement the principles of He Whakaputanga & Te Tiriti o Waitangi as priorities to ensure we are achieving self determined positive outcomes for our hāpori, hapū and iwi.
TE KONA
August 2017 - Te Uma o Te Kona was specifically chosen by a group of Taitamariki of Kaikohe to name our shared Youth Space that was once located on Broadway, Kaikohe. Te Kona, mother of prominent Ngāpuhi leader, Hone Heke, is acknowledged for her maternal nature to provide safety, counsel and comfort.
To maintain the connection of this past initiative our current whare located at 74 Guy Road, Kaikohe, upholds the name and mana of this tupuna whaea, Te Kona.
Rooms are available for hire at Te Kona. Check out our TE KONA - ROOM HIRE tab or book here: https://www.tekona.co.nz/rooms
